    28 years ago ,i did an exhibition in japan . While there i purchased a large paint brush. Today i still use the same brush on every painting. Even know my dog ate the handle off it. Iv never found a better brush since. Japan is quality. The people and there workmanship. From Australia 🦘

    I love Japanese art supplies. One of my favorites, as an artist who works with pastels, is Gondola. The laydown is like butter! Pigment rich and so so blendable. I treated myself to them a few days ago, and I cannot put them down. Kuretake Clean Color markers are another favorite of mine, especially the darker earthy tones. I used them to made a set of holiday greeting cards in the style of etegami for my family last year.

    Ayanami blue from Turner was actually done as a collaboration with Neon Genesis Evangelion. The colour is modeled after the Character Rei Ayanami, who has striking blue hair in the series. A gorgeous colour inspired by an amazing anime! ❤

      Oh! When I searched about this colour I indeed saw the Ayanami character everywhere, but I was not sure if it was related… Thanks for the info!

    my main complaint with the Holbein is the drying time, the pigments are nice, but you can't use more than 1 color or it dries on the palette, maybe I will try Turner

      It's true! I use a small water spray to keep the paint from drying too fast 👌

    If you're in London and looking for holbine paints or turner paints, check at Jackson's art in Dalston! Last time I was in the shop they had both available :D (also they do click and collect which is often faster then delivery!)

    Thanks for sharing! I love Japanese art supplies. Holbein is my brand for gouache and acrylic gouache.
    The polytube (gekkoso gouache tube) is better than aluminum tube. It is soft and easier to squeeze. Im surprised you didnt look at their aluminum palette. Theyre quite famous for that.
    Bumpodo has produced some really cool palettes too. I have some of them.
    Im going to Tokyo in May so I wont be able to visit the holbein showroom and gwasendo but that could be my 4th trip to Japan 😆

    • @pawshire
      @pawshire  6 месяцев назад

      So cool! I looove Gekkō-sō gouache but I thought I'd love their polytube more (thanks for the proper name! ^^)… always squeeze too much 😆 I did check out their aluminium palette, but I can't stand the noise of brushing or scratching on aluminium, that's too sad. Honestly thinking about going back to Japan again at the end of the year. Their art stores are just too good!

    Years convinced that Holbein was German. TIL! Also, there are 2 ways to pronounce «squirrel», British and American where American squishes the word in one syllable while British pronounces it as two syllables. You pronounced it perfectly, so don't worry, your English is impeccable (^--^)

    Love the little pause showing the wall that ISN'T decorated😂😂
    I used gouache once,but I hated it because the colors I got in an art box didn't go well together.
    I own 4 tubes of turner acryl gouache but I only did one painting.
    The cat store looks so cute,I would have probably bought cat stickers..a lot of cat stickers😂
    Thanks for showing what you bought😊
    I think the big brush you bought will be more useful for watercolor

    A very interesting walk-through of different bŕands.

    You should do a video discussing your take on color theory! Your eye for color is exquisite 😍
    I also find it difficult to buy art supplies online. There are too many brands out there and not enough reviews. Do you notice anything when mixing gouaches from different brands? I always wondered about this since the composition of each brand is different and my collection is quite limited.

    • @pawshire
      @pawshire  6 месяцев назад

      Thank you so much ❤️ for the gouache, depending on the brands they definitely mix together differently. I currently use Linel, Maimeri, Holbein and Turner together and they do mix up well actually, as their textures are similar. The colours come out really well and don't separate either 😊 and so far, no issue mixing Acryla with traditional gouache either

    • @pawshire
      @pawshire  6 месяцев назад

      I use synthetic brushes from Tintoretto and of course the ones from Holbein & Chelsea ^^. I tend to look for soft and fine synthetic hair that have a certain firmness, for easier control 😇

    Your work with the flowers and fruit is first class. The texture and the graduated colour of the oranges is a real focus puller particularly against the more monochromatic bowl. And what a score with the washi tape with animals and flora, it is extremely cute indeed. I wonder if there were tapes with cats. I shop online sometimes when I am replacing used supplies, but there is a certain atmosphere in an art supply shop. Inside a shop there is the ability to smell paints, chalks, crayons, pencils, paper, and additives. The store also often has a unique smell made up of all the contents. The other big plus of being at a supply store is the tactility or tangibleness of items. The texture or lack of with paper, boards, canvas, the ergonomics of tools like brushes and knives. Just the ability to feel the resistance or springiness of the brush hairs or monofilaments. And often the opportunity to use a mark maker to see how it works on a surface. Thanks for the video reviewing your purchases and your thoughts on the supplies and stores.

      @@pawshire Currently, Blick has them on sale for $6.34 per 20ml tube which is the lowest price that I have seen in a while. So $6.34, which is almost four times more expensive than in Japan, is considered a deal in the US 😒.

    I think you mistook the gekkoso watercolours as gouache which explains why its so pigmented. The kanji 透明水彩 means watercolour

    • @pawshire
      @pawshire  6 месяцев назад

      At the shop there was an English sign that clarifying that "non transparent watercolor is gouache" on these tubes (it's on my Tokyo art stores video). So these tubes are supposed to be gouache from what the staff told me😊

    • @pawshire

      @@pawshire I love it, but I only use on details or special parts of the painting! In my city here in Brazil there Is a local art brand that makes a very similar paint it’s not advertise as acrylic gouache just as matte acrylic. Its cheap and the color chart it’s quite exciting! These paints have been my joy for the past 2 years. But definility saving money for more turner in the future. Day dreaming about the japanesque set haha 🥰
